And Oh my people! You give full measures and weights with Justice and you don’t reduce to mankind their commodities, and you don’t spread mischief on earth as mischief-makers.
Shuaib warned his people of Midian that their continued dishonesty in weight and measures, by rejecting Adhikr—the Balance of Justice—would result in a comprehensive punishment.
Today, the Arabic Quran-reading Fujjar are warned by verses 83:1-7: “Woe to those who give less, who when taking a measure from people, take in full; but if they give by measure or by weight to people, they make a reduction. Don’t they think that they will be resurrected for a Great Day—the Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of all worlds? No! Indeed, the record of the Fujjar is in Sijjeen.” Despite this, they are involved in deceptive practices across various sectors of life. By rejecting Adhikr—the Truth—they are following falsehood. As mentioned in verse 40:78, when the Lord’s Command comes, matters will be decided with Truth, and the followers of falsehood will be the losers.
Verse 49:9 concludes: “Indeed, Lord Allah likes those who judge with Justice—Adhikr.” See explanation 5:42; 7:8-9; and 10:47-48.
